The content in rich Internet applications is now available to Google, and that means that RIAs should be easier to find in Google. This is one of the main issues that people ask about when talking about rich Internet applications, so its great to see Google, Yahoo and Adobe working together to solve this problem.

..

Adobe has created a special Flash player for the search engines that acts like a virtual user going through each application. It actually goes through the runtime of each Flash application and translates it into something the search engines can understand..

While the world is off bandwagoning on blog posts about Twitter and how much of an influence/frustration it is, I wanted to get back to the root of some things. I’ve been troubled a lot lately by just how bad it seems that web (online) experiences for brands are failing the consumers. The amount of money wasted on ignorance, well, I just don’t know.

As every good marketer should know–from Marketing 101–it is very important that you maintain a brand, or an extension of it. This means that you want people to not only use your product or service, but that you want them to see a benefit from it, and ultimately continue to use it in the future.

..

Once upon a time, within the past few months of my life, I gave a survey to about 60 or so people in regards to beverage websites that I asked them to view. It was a very simple survey (in exchange for answers, I offered consumers their pick from a grab bag of about $30 in CVS-purchased chocolates and candies–and yes, I had more than enough volunteers), with each person focusing on one of the 5 websites and then answering 10 questions. The first nine focused on rating things from 1-5 (for easy math), the last question asking whether or not the consumer would ever return to the website. Number ten was open-ended, and I asked for open comments, preferably focused upon what would prompt the consumer to return to the site.

A good number of things as it turns out.

..

Tips for Building Next Generation Web 2.0 Applications

First, understand the basics of Web 2.0. Here is a popular overview I wrote a little while back that has the essential design patterns of Web 2.0 as well as how they specifically plug into a viable business model.

Assemble a development team that is willing to learn. The market is moving at light speed at the moment and new models for designing, building, hosting, and distributing Web apps are emerging rapidly. Because of this, it’s fairly unlikely you’ll be able to hire the folks that already have the skills you need, so the next best thing is hiring people who are passionate about and able to learn the latest new things quickly.

This session looks at how to find the gems out there, criteria to consider, ways to negotiate and how to best leverage your new purchase. Tips, tricks, success stories, and painful lessons learned will be shared.

..

In 2004, he was listening to some guy named Chris on a panel and all these domains were out there that expired but were linked to by .gov and .edu websites. Most of you should know that these are pretty valuable links. They’re generally more trusted (at least in ‘04 and ‘05). A lot of people didn’t take Chris seriously at the time. He built a spider to find these sites and checked them against the Yahoo directory and DMOZ directory. After doing 1.5 months of work, 1500 domains were out there in the wild that had amazing links.
