Web-based animation, video and storytelling options grow

Graphics, Sound and speech, Video in Web

I continue to be a vocal advocate of web-based digital storytelling tools which primarily use still images and audio narration, like VoiceThread, but the growing availability of web-based video editing and animation creation environments may entice me to begin experimenting with web-based digital stories which go beyond narrated slideshows. One difficulty with all these websites is categorizing them to understand what functionalities they provide..

To my knowledge, YouTube does not (yet anyway) permit online video editing. Users can reply or respond to videos submitted by others or videos they’ve previously submitted themselves, leading to hyperlinked, asynchronous, multi-node video conversations. Mobile Web Sound Ads

Make Money from Website, Mobile Web, Sound and speech

Most websites need financial support if they are to provide services to website visitors. That is particularly tough for cell phones, which access the mobile web, since small screens do not leave much room for advertising. If you feel that a major slice of mobile Web activity will be via sound technology, then there is an additional challenge. Who wants to wait patiently listening through a sound advertisement until they get to the information they were seeking?

Option 1: PhoneBlogz - blog by phone

This seems quite the Web 2.0 hype enabled service offering that promises exactly what we need. It works as advertised, and I have configured their free version on saidia.org for us to play with. The interface is fairly slick, and takes just a few minutes to set up..

The Logic For Sound Is Strong

Whereas the keyboard interface with a cell phone is far from ideal, the cell phone is designed expressly to handle sound. In parts of the developing world, the cell phone will be the only device that many will use to surf the mobile web. The huge potential of these developing world markets will well justify the investment needed to develop strong voice recognition systems..

Converting text to and from speech for accessibility and convenience

Accessibility, Sound and speech, Text and Font, Web based Application

The ability to convert speech-to-text and text-to-speech is an amazing technology development with multiple applications. The software solutions I’ve heard the most about when it comes to speech to text functionality is Dragon NaturallySpeaking and IBM ViaVoice..

..

When it comes to converting text to speech, Talkr is the main website I’m familiar with (and have integrated here on my blog) which creates (for free) an audio podcast of text entries on any blog.
